Fidelis M. (Kruger) Wiertzema was born December 14, 1929 in rural George, IA to Martin & Grace (DeBoer) Kruger. She was raised on the family farm in rural George and attended country school until she was in 8th grade.

She married Verdus Wiertzema on February 22, 1954 in rural George. They lived on the farm north of George raising livestock and farming their land, along with their daughter Marilyn. Fidelis was a hard-working farm wife helping with feeding the cattle, grinding feed, and bringing meals to the field during harvest.  In their time together, they enjoyed going to the car races on Saturday nights at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Rock Rapids and going dancing at the VFW in Luverne.   Over the years, she also enjoyed having her grandchildren visit and spend days on end out on the farm.

Fidelis moved from the farm to Sheldon in 1994 after Verdus’ passing. She loved taking care of house plants (and had quite the green thumb), caring for her beloved pets, and volunteering at the nursing home playing cards with the residents. She also enjoyed going out for dinner or shopping with Marilyn and her friends and visiting her grandkids great-grandkids. Fidelis loved to be able to go to their activities.

On January 13, 2023, she passed away at the Sanford Senior Care Center at the age of 93 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Marilyn Bowen of Sheldon, IA; two grandchildren Scott (Kara) Bowen of Harrisburg, SD and Sarah (Chris) Ewert of Harrisburg, SD; four great-grandchildren: Jaxon, MaKaylee, Tyler, and Nora; brothers-in-law Verdean (Joan) Wiertzema and Verdell (Glenda) Wiertzema.

She is preceded in death by her husband Verdus, her parents Martin & Grace Kruger, her aunt Jane Pap, her in-laws Henry & Johanna Wiertzema, Vernon & Gert Wiertzema, Bill & Vera DeBeer.
