Gwen M. Kruger

Gwen M. Kruger, age 91, of Sheldon, passed away on Wednesday December 7, 2022 at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.

Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Baker officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Sheldon.

Visitation with the Family Present will be from 9:30am until 11:00am on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, for Gwen Kruger.

Gwen Marlys Kruger the daughter Charles Wayne and Hazel Matilda (Thompson) Mann, was born on March 19, 1931 in Burt, Iowa, she attended school in Burt and graduated from Burt Community High School in 1948, where she was proud to be on the Burt Girls High School Basketball team for 3 years. Gwen was united in marriage to Donald Wayne Kruger on March 5, 1950 in Burt, IA; the couple moved to a farm east of Ritter, IA for several years, then moved to a farm northwest of Sheldon, where they farmed and raised livestock until moving into Sheldon in 1997.

Her husband, Don passed away on November 28, 2015. Gwen remained in her home for a few more years before moving to a condo then into Fieldcrest Assisted Living and into Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon in July of 2022. She passed away there on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 reaching the age of 91 years, 8 months and 18 days.

Gwen was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, she was on the Ladies Guild, taught Sunday school and helped in making quilts. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing basketball, playing cards, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, sewing, having coffee with her friends, attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Gwen was also a Great Jokester.

She leaves to cherish her memories her three children, Alan (Mary) Kruger of Oelwein, IA; David Kruger and his fiancée, Glenda Kreykes of Ashton, IA; Kathy (Gerry) Seivert of Sheldon, IA; ten grandchildren, Chelley (Jason) Klatt, Amanda Plathe, Adam (Andrea) Kruger, Will Hartman, Jane (Blake) Baker, Cami  Oberbroeckling, Michael (Cassie) Kruger, Daniel (Alissa) Kruger, Jennifer (Ben) Van Beek, Brian (Lyndsay) Seivert; fifteen great-grandchildren, Annie and Abbie Klatt, Isabelle and Jameson Elliott, Jocelyn and Nolan Schwartz, Alyvia, Addilyn and Abrym Plathe, Cale and Lyla Kruger, Charlee and Chandler Kruger, Jeremiah and Jacob Kruger; Cale and Ada Baker; Lea Oberbroeckling; Madelyn and Mason Seivert; a sister, Joan Paterson of Hayden, ID and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Claude Whitehill and a brother-in-law, AC Paterson.
