Harold A. Van Veldhuizen, age 79 of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
His services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev Paul Van Maaren officiating.
Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Harold Allen Van Veldhuizen, the son of Gradus and Elbertha Dorothy (Aalbers) Van Veldhuizen was born June 6, 1944 in Orange City, Iowa. He received his education in Sanborn, Iowa and graduated from the Sanborn Public School. He went on to attend Nettleton Business College in Sioux City, Iowa and received an Accounting Degree. Harold was united in marriage to Gladys Nieuwendorp on November 12, 1969 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. They made their home in Sheldon, where he worked for area farmers, he then worked for Land-O-Lakes Cooperative until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked at Northwest Décor and at Hy-Vee in the Produce Department. Harold passed away at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Sunday, September 3, 2023 reaching the age of 79 years, 2 months and 28 days.
Harold was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. He was an active member of the Sheldon Morning Kiwanis, he enjoyed gardening, wood working, watching sports, and volunteered on many Mission Trips to Haiti and in the United States.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; a daughter, Rachel and her husband, Brandon Krukow of Boyden, Iowa and a son, Troy and his wife, Joy Van Veldhuizen of Chicago, Illinois; a grandson, Taylor Krukow and a granddaughter, Josie Krukow; brothers and sisters, John (Glenda) Van Veldhuizen of Sioux City, Iowa; Gladys (Rod) Kroeze of Sheldon, Iowa; Dennis (Sallee) Van Veldhuizen of Milford, Iowa; Bonnie Kenagy of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lori Van Veldhuizen of Sanborn, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gradus and Elbertha Dorothy Van Veldhuizen; a granddaughter, Lucy Van Veldhuizen; and a brother, Larry Van Veldhuizen
