Henrietta M. Den Hartog, age 77, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012 at her residence in Sheldon, Iowa.
Her service will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 12, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Rev. David Brower ~ Officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.
Visitation will be after 4:00 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012 with the family present from 6 to 8 P.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

Henrietta Margene Den Hartog, the daughter of William and Nettie (Westerman) Poppema was born on October 22, 1934, on a farm near Hospers, Iowa. She grew up on a farm in Lyon County, where she attended country schools and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1952. Following graduation from high school, Henrietta worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell in Sheldon. She was united in marriage to Eugene Den Hartog on March 16, 1954, in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon; where Henrietta became a full-time mom and homemaker. Henrietta passed away on October 8, 2012, at her home surrounded by her loving family, reaching the age of 77 years, 11 months and 16 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where she was active in various church activities; including Interfaith luncheons, Bible studies, and teaching Sunday School. She and Gene enjoyed traveling together and she joined him on a number of mission trips to Haiti. Her strong faith in Christ was evident in the way she loved and served those around her.
Henrietta leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Gene of 58 years, and their five children; Sheila and her husband Alan Van Meeteren of Kansas City, MO, Sherri and her husband Dan Van Gorp of Sheldon, IA, Dr. Bryan and his wife Nancy (Rowenhorst) Den Hartog of Rapid City, SD, Lori Strickland, Heidi and her husband Jim McPartland all of Boone, IA. She also leaves 12 loving grandchildren; Tyler (Jenn) Van Meeteren, Bryant (Molly) Van Meeteren, Alissa Van Meeteren and her fiancée, Ty Blau, Adam (Christina) Van Gorp, Aaron Van Gorp, Jordan (Allison) Den Hartog, Addison Den Hartog, Taylor Den Hartog, Danielle Strickland, Mitchell, Mariah and Marcus McPartland; 2 great-grandchildren, Carter Van Gorp and Piper Van Meeteren; a brother, Rodney and his wife, Sandy Poppema of Worthington, MN, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Poppema.
