Henrietta Meendering

Mrs. Henrietta Meendering, age 93, of Norwalk, formerly of Hull, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

There will be a celebration of her life on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. The Rev. Trey Perrott will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Saturday, at 10:00am, at the funeral home.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home. There will be a further celebration of her life on April 12, at 4:00pm, at the First Baptist Church in Norwalk.

The Oolman Funeral Home of Hull is in charge of arrangements for Henrietta Meendering of Norwalk, formerly of Hull.

Henrietta was born on October 31, 1920, at Hull, the daughter of Gradus and Harriet (Spinden) Van Der Vliet. She was raised at Hull.

On January 29, 1941, she married Bernard Meendering at Hull. They made their home at Hull, where she was a homemaker. She was also a cook at a coffee shop and at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. In October of 1997, they moved to Martinsdale. “Bernie” passed away on March 30, 2002, in Sioux Center.

In July of 2013, Henrietta transferred to the Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Norwalk. She had served as a Sunday school teacher and as president of the women’s organization.

Mrs. Meendering enjoyed embroidering and making quilts for all the generations of her family.

Survivors include three children and their spouses, Berdena and Kenneth Auman, of Hickman, Minnesota; Edwin and Dolores Meendering, of Martinsdale; and Juanita and Allan Fincham, of Des Moines; a daughter-in-law, Hendrene Schottloffel, of Rock Valley; thirteen grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Albertha Van Der Vliet, of Colton, South Dakota; and Darlene Van Der Vliet, of California.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Allen Meendering; a granddaughter, Debra Renee Meendering; three brothers, Henry John Van Der Vliet; Herman Van Der Vliet, and his wife, Gertrude; and Stanley Van Der Vliet; and four sisters and their husbands, Julia and Lawrence Bylsma, Matilda and Isaac Kuipers, Annetta and Gerrit Ter Maat, and Bernice and Henry Vink.
