Howard William Haan

Howard William Haan passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22nd, at the age of 97. He was born October 13, 1925, in Rock Rapids, Iowa to William McKinley Haan and Lydia (Amend) Haan.

He was the grandson of German immigrants, the firstborn of four sons. From an early age, he was a hard worker and devoted to family. A World War II veteran, he was assigned to COM SERV PAC at Pearl Harbor from 1944 to 1946 and served a total of six years in the U.S. Navy. He worked in the oil industry for thirty years in New Mexico and West Texas. He was a wonderful husband and father, and known for his sense of humor and love of the outdoors, fishing and camping.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Richard, Dale, and Romain, loving wife Erma and grandson Jason Borage. He is survived by two daughters: Stephanie Borage and her husband Clarence of Aurora, CO and Theresa Haan of Sutherland Springs, TX; son, Bruce Haan and his wife, Beth, of Jourdanton, TX; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Howard will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Erma, at Staff Community Cemetery near Lake Leon in Eastland County, Texas, where they lived in retirement for many happy years prior to relocating to Jourdanton, Texas, to be closer to their family.

The Haan family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Heights of Atascosa for their kind and compassionate care provided in the last several years of his life.
