Irene Hesse

Irene Hesse1Irene Hesse, age 90, of Ocheyedan, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Rev. Niel Wehmas officiating.

Burial to follow at Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 9, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.

Irene Luella Hesse was born on May 17, 1924 on a farm southwest of Worthington, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Cameron and Lydia (Noerenberg) Zierke. Her mother died in 1935. She attended a country school until 1937, when she moved with her father to her grandfather’s farm in Harris, Iowa. Irene was confirmed in May of 1938 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. She attended high school in Harris, graduating in 1942.

She was united in marriage to Robert Hesse of Ocheyedan, Iowa on February 1, 1948. They moved to Ocheyedan in 1965, where Robert was employed by the elevator. Robert passed away in 1981.

Irene worked for the Osceola County Assessor as Township Assessor and part time in the office from 1961 to 1985. In November of 1984, she transported meals from Sibley to Ocheyedan for Dinner Date. In 1989, she became the Site Supervisor at Ocheyedan, retiring in 2008.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan.

In April of 2012, Irene was told she had cancer and because of her age surgery was not advised.

She passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Those left to cherish her memories are her two daughters: Vonda and husband Terry Weber of Colorado, Springs, CO, and their sons Aaron and wife Jennifer Weber of Colorado Springs, CO and Andrew Weber of Colorado Springs CO; Darla Hardersen of Sergeant Bluff, IA and her son Troy Frick of Sergeant Bluff, IA and her daughter Susan Crabtree of Sioux City, IA; eleven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Hesse; grandchild: Stacy Frick; son-in-law: Gary Hardersen; her parents; three half-brothers and their spouses: Walter Noerenberg, Robert Noerenberg, and Myron Zierke.
