Kathryn “Kay” Holst, age 76, of May City passed away on Friday, October 31st at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, Iowa.
Services will be held on Monday, November 3rd at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City with Pastor Neil Wehmas officiating. Burial to follow at the Harrison Township Cemetery in May City Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with the family present from 5 to 7:00 pm, Sunday Evening at St. John’s Lutheran Church in May City.

Kay married Russell Holst on October 20, 1957 in Hartley. After their marriage, they farmed north of Everly for a few years until Russell was called to serve in the military. While serving his county they were stationed in Salinas, CA and later Tacoma, WA. They returned to farm east of May City for 11 years and later moved to a farm west of May City, where they were partners in farming for 24 years. After their retirement, they moved to the town of May City, where they have continued to live. After her children were raised, she worked for a nursing home in Hartley as a cook, until she was forced into retirement due to her failing health. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, taking care of her cats and spending time with her family.
Kay passed away at the Osceola Community Hospital on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Beverly in infancy and one son, Larry in 2002.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Russell of May City, IA; one daughter, Lisa (Lee) Lode of Sanborn; four grandchildren: Brianna (Patrick) Nash, Jonathon Holst, D.J. Lode & Dalton Lode; two great grandchildren: Brently & Bryson; three sisters: Shirley (Earl) Meester of Sheldon, IA, Betty (Arnold) Pahl of Wahpeton, IA & Bonnie Newman of Spencer; one brother-in-law, David Holst of Westminster, CA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
