Larry Reck age 79 of Rock Rapids, IA, died Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation will be Monday, September 23rd from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at the Christian Reformed Church of Rock Rapids.
Burial will be prior to the service. Family and friends are invited to arrive at the Christian Reformed Church at 10:00 AM, and process to the Riverview Cemetery of Rock Rapids.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 24th at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, with Pastor Doug De Groot officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for later designation to: Atlas of Lyon County, Midwest Honor Flight and the Christian Reformed Church.

Larry Lee Reck was born February 26, 1945, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of John and Grace (Lupkes) Reck. Larry grew up on a farm northeast of Rock Rapids. He attended country school Midland #3, until eighth grade and graduated from Central Lyon High School in 1963. In 1964 Larry attended Sioux City Barber School. In September of 1965, Larry entered the Army and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri for basic training, and AIT training as a heavy equipment operator. In January of 1966, Larry served one tour of duty in Vietnam, he returned home in January of 1967.
On February 10, 1967, Larry was united in marriage to Marilyn Weerheim. The last nine months of his military service Larry and Marilyn lived in Tacoma Washington, where Larry was stationed at Ft. Lewis Washington.
Upon moving back to Rock Rapids, after completing his service to his country, Larry was a barber for 4 years in Rock Rapids. In 1971 he started working for NAPA Auto Parts as a salesman, where he was employed for 19 years. Larry then went to work for Sturdevant’s Auto, where he was employed for 24 years. Larry retired in 2015.
Larry was an active member of the American Legion and the VFW. He also served as an Elder and a Deacon of the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Rapids.
Larry was steadfast in his faith, he loved his country, his family and his Iowa Hawkeyes.
Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years Marilyn (Weerheim); two children, Kris (Blain) Andera of Spirit Lake, IA and Tim (Kristen) Reck of Sioux Falls, SD; special family member Ed (Sharon) Garza of Grafton WI; six grandchildren, Miranda (Mike) Wahl, Cullen (Mari) Andera, Gabrielle Reck, Emma Reck, Casey Garza and Jay Garza; four great-grandchildren: Makenzie Wahl, Maxton Wahl, Henley Andera, Layton Andera; one sister, Lucille (Art) Bosch; two brothers-in-Law, Evan Sneller and Bob (Cheryl) Weerheim; two sisters-in-law, Ronda (Steve) Arends and Pat Weerheim; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Reck; four brothers, Jake, Bill, Ed and Ralph; one sister, Tillie Hindt; parents-in-law, Ralph and Geneva Weerheim; and sister-in-law, Bev Sneller.
