Lila “Kay” Wilson, age 84, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Country View Manor, in Sibley, Iowa.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 22nd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with family present from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley. There will be a Rosary service at 5:30 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 23rd at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Sibley, IA, with Father Siby Punnoose as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery in Sibley.
The Jurrens Funeral Home in Sibley is in charge of the arrangements for Lila “Kay” Wilson.
Lila Kay Wilson was born September 20, 1938, in Sheldon, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Lorris (Kane) Vander Wiel. She was raised in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1956. After graduation she worked for the local Telephone Company as a Operator. She was married to James Wilson in April of 1958. They made their home in Sibley, IA. Five children were born to this union, Mary, Beth, Michael, Lynn and Kathy. Kay and James were later divorced.
Kay worked at Tony & Mary’s Steakhouse for 13 years as a cook and later Village Northwest in Sheldon for 18 years as a Direct Support Professional. She retired in 2003. She enjoyed trips to Massachusetts to visit her brother, playing cards and coffee with friends. Over the years she attended many bus trips, as well as trips to Alaska, California, and Mexico. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, active with the bible study groups and the Ladie’s Guild.
In May of 2023 she entered Country View Manor and remained there until her death, this past Saturday, August 19, 2023, where she died at the age of 84.
She is survived by four daughters, Mary (Jeff) Martin, Beth (David) Molitor, Lynn (Steve) Mulder, all of Sibley, IA and Kathy Wilson (special friend, Loren Sohl) of Boyden, IA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Lorris Vander Wiel; two children, Michael Wilson and an infant child; two brothers, Ronald Vander Wiel and Barry Vander Wiel.
