After high school, Lorayne worked at VanderWelt Hospital in Rock Rapids, during this time she met Howard Koll, after 6 months of going together they were united in marriage. They moved to the family farm and farmed from 1946 to 1962 when they moved to Rock Rapids Iowa. Lorayne worked at various restaurants in the area such as Hesses café, Two Brothers and Lyons Den. She also worked at JcPenneys and Merrill Pioneer Hospital all in Rock Rapids.
On June 4, 1986, Lorayne’s husband of 40 years, Howard died. She remained working at Merrill Pioneer Hospital until age 78, when she retired.
