Mr. Marius Evertse, age 90, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.
There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, March 26, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Kevin Yurk will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.
Visitation will be after 4:30pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.
The Oolman Funeral Home in Hull is in charge of arrangements for Marius Evertse.
Marius was born on January 19, 1924, in Haamstede, The Netherlands, the son of Cornelius and Mina (Slager) Evertse. He was raised in The Netherlands. During World War II, he was forced into slave labor in Nazi Germany.
On April 29, 1949, he married Lena Johanna Dykgraaf in The Netherlands. They immigrated to the United States in September of 1950. They settled at Hull, where he was a carpenter.
Mr. Evertse was a member of the First Reformed Church. He enjoyed camping, dancing, Dutch singing, fishing, spending time with his family, and wood working.
Survivors include his wife of more than 64 years; a daughter and her husband, Evelyn and Larry Lyman; and a son and his wife, Ken and Ida Evertse, all of Hull; seven grandchildren, Shawn Lyman, and his wife, Jamie; Tim Lyman, and his fiancé, Chrysti Crane; Jay Lyman, and his wife, Leanne; Mitchell Evertse, and his wife, Jenni-Lee; Austin Evertse; Stephen Evertse, and his wife, Laurel; and Erin, and her husband, Doug Alaimo; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three sisters, a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law, all in The Netherlands.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three brothers-in-law.
