Nancy Lee Huff, the daughter of Murvin and Marie (Taylor) Hopkins, was born September 25, 1945 in Primghar, Iowa. She received her education in Sutherland and Sanborn schools and received and later earned her GED. On July 16, 1966, she was united in marriage to Robert Paul Huff at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon. Nancy and Bob owned and operated the Brower Bakery in Sheldon. Nancy was also a CNA for many years at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care (Oak Park). She and Bob also managed the Autumn Park Apartments in Sheldon. Bob preceded her in death on April 29, 2008. Nancy passed away at the age of 79 on Saturday, April 26, 2025, surrounded by family, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon and a 10-year member of the Sheldon Ambulance Team. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, going to the casinos and playing the slots. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She lived a life of love and service, giving freely of her time, her finances, her energy, and her home. If she chose you, you were family. She devoted her life to those around her and wasn’t afraid to share her opinion with a snarky comment or “the look.” Even as her body slowed down, her sharp mind never did.
She will be fondly remembered for her hand-made blankets, her huge batches of oyster stew and ham and bean soup, her newspaper clippings bragging about her family’s accomplishments, and her knowledge about the goings-on of the neighborhood.
Nancy leaves to cherish her memory her three sons and their wives, Lyle and Lisa Huff of Ashton, Iowa; Ed and Samantha Huff of Sioux City, Iowa and Jay and Tricia Huff of Burlington, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Teresa and Shawn Steinman, Scarlett and Jason Vander Berg, Jeremiah and Carly Huff, Ben and Kelsey Huff, Brianna and Zachary Harris, Kiefer Huff and Julia Cavanaugh, Madeline Huff and Edgar Reyes-Flores, Alexander Huff and Emily Deignan, Marissa Huff and Caden Huff; eleven great-grandchildren and a special niece, Rae Lyn Paulson; three sisters, Marian Anderson of Texas, Jane and Ken Conaway of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Jean and Phil Snyder of Sanborn, Iowa; two brothers, Keith and Kathryn Hopkins of Texas and Ken “Butch” and Dayle Hopkins of Georgia; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, a granddaughter, Eleanor Grace; and three sisters, Gretchen Louderbeck, Marveen Lang and Jeanette Endorf.
