Pauline Mary Von Arb

Pauline Mary Von Arb, age 88, of Granville, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, lowa, with Rev. Daniel Greving officiating and Msgr. Kenneth Seifried concelebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 4-7 p.m., there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., all at the church in Granville. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Saturday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.  Condolences may be sent online, and the funeral will be live-streamed at www.fischfh.com

Pauline was born September 19, 1935, to Charles and Sophia (Jungers) Auchstetter of Hospers, IA. She was raised in Hospers with her sister and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Alton in 1953 and then Mercy School of Nursing in Council Bluffs in 1956

On February 15, 1958, Pauline married Paul J. Von Arb at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers. The couple made their home south of Granville where they farmed and raised their two children, Paula and Mark. Pauline was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville and the St. Joseph Ladies Guild. Over the years, she volunteered for the advisory boards, annual church picnics and turkey dinners.

Pauline worked as a nurse for 60 years where she cared for patients at Mercy Hospital (Council Bluffs), the Heritage House (Orange City), Community Memorial Hospital (Sheldon), and nursing homes in Sutherland, Paullina and Le Mars. She also performed insurance physicals in the tri-county area for 20 years before retiring from her nursing duties in 2016.

During her time working, Pauline was also busy being a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, spending time in prayer, attending or listening to her grandchildren’s sports activities, helping with church flowers, visiting with friends over coffee, attending daily masses and enjoying precious time with her family. These times included a 25th wedding anniversary celebration with family & friends, a 50th wedding anniversary trip to Disneyland in California and a 60th wedding anniversary celebration with family. She will long be remembered for her strong faith, kind heart, service to the Lord through the patients she cared for and praying the rosary for family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 65 years Paul J. Von Arb of Granville, IA; her two children, Paula (Wayne) Means and Mark (Susan) Von Arb all of Granville, IA; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Roberta (Gordon) Kokenge; her brother-in-law, Robert (Glenda) Von Arb; her sisters-in-law, Charlotte Von Arb, Patricia Jungers, Marjorie Klein, Carolyn (Vern) Langenfeld, Arlene (Leon) Schoo, Bev Delperdang, Sondra Von Arb, Clarissa Doggett, lone Naber, and Judy (Frank) Mousel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles & Sophia Auchstetter; an infant brother, Emmett Auchstetter; her sisters-in-law, Kay Von Arb, Lillian Von Arb, Charmaine List, and Mary Ann Mousel; and her brothers-in-law, Melvin Von Arb, Everett “Bud” Von Arb, Bernard Jungers, Leo Klein, Orville Von Arb, Bill Lanzendorf, Harold Naber, Ray List, Don Delperdang, and Ronald Von Arb.

Casket bearers will be Jordan Von Arb, Derek Von Arb, Jeremy Schindler, Tyler Konz, Steve Auchstetter and Dave List.
