Phillip Gene Wilson was born in Sidney, Iowa to Leatha Agnes (Darnold) Wilson and Claude William Wilson, both long deceased. Phil grew up in various Iowa towns near Missouri Valley, Iowa, attending several elementary schools. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School and after serving a tour in the Air Force; he married Iris Mae (Shinrock) Wilson and attended Omaha University, majoring in Business/Insurance. Phil passed away on 14 December 2014 in Yorktown, Virginia.
Phil accepted a position as State Farm Agent and in 1960 he and Iris moved to Sheldon, Iowa to raise their family. Phil served in various areas including as a Sunday School teacher, Church treasurer, Northwest Iowa Technical College Board, and other work related organizations. They stayed in Iowa raising their four children through college and graduate schools and then retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas and Branson, Missouri, keeping a house in Lake Okoboji, Iowa for the summers. In 2012 they moved to Yorktown, Virginia where they were still living at the time of Phil’s death.
In addition to his wife, Phil is survived by his four loving children: Sheri Mae (Wilson) Lewis, Esq. and her husband, Earl, and their two children – Brandtyn and Prestyn – all of Burlington, Iowa; Geri Kay (Wilson) Berg and her husband, Scott, of Norfolk, Nebraska, and their three children – Nathanael and wife, Brittney, of Salina, Kansas, and their four children Reisman, Micah, Madeline, and Paili; Whitney Berg Conley NNP and her husband Matthew and their daughter Brooklynn of Pembroke Pines, Florida, and Jamin Berg and wife Heather and their son Landon of Omaha, Nebraska; Marine Col Blake M. Wilson and wife, Becky, of Fredericksburg, Virginia and their three children – Nicholas, Abigail, and Matthew; and Melinda Sue (Wilson) Navarrete, CCP and her husband, Juan, and their three children – Tyler, Noah, and Riley, of Yorktown, Virginia.
Surviving siblings are: Alice (Wilson) and Larry Mendenhall of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Richard and Shirley Wilson of Missouri Valley, Iowa; and Sister-in-Law Mrs. Donna Wilson of Council Bluffs, Iowa. On his wife’s side, he is survived by Sister-In-Law Janice M. Swigart and husband, Russell of St. Paul, Nebraska, Brother-in-Law Frederick C. Shinrock and wife Nancy of Blufton, North Carolina, and Brother-in-Law Brian L. Shinrock and wife Nancy of Omaha, Nebraska. He also has many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceding him in death besides parents and grandparents were six brothers and two sisters, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Phil’s funeral was held December 18, 2014 in Omaha, Nebraska.
