Ryan Alan Rueter, age 59, of Carroll passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at his home in Carroll.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 11, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:00 P.M. on Sunday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Monday where visitation will resume until the time of service.

Organist for the service will be Tami Biggerstaff, soloist will be Deb Schmidt, and trumpet player will be Vicki Grundmeier. Casket bearers will be Ryan’s nieces and nephews. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Little Lamb Preschool and Carroll County Ambulance Service and may be left at the funeral home or the church.
Ryan Alan Rueter was born June 4, 1954 to Kenneth A. and Mary Christine Rueter at Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington, Minnesota. He was baptized in 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Horton Township near Ocheyedan, Iowa. Ryan was confirmed in 1968 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. He graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1972.
Ryan attended Pipestone Area Vocational School with an Associate’s degree in the areas of auto parts/parts sales, graduating in 1974. His first job after completion of vocational school was working at Gopher Auto Supply in Worthington, Minnesota. He moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1975 and worked at the International Dealership, Dey Appliance, Champion Auto, and Chippewa Motor Freight.
Ryan married Darlene Dass on June 5, 1976 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley, Minnesota. Ryan and Darlene moved to Carroll in 1980 when Ryan was hired at Crouse Cartage Company as a rate clerk. He eventually became evening supervisor in that department. After Crouse Cartage closed in 1999, Ryan accepted the position of Evening Supervisor of the Rate Department at Midland Transportation in Marshalltown, Iowa. After one year, Midland closed and Ryan started with Randy’s Diesel Repair as their Parts Manager. In 2002, he began employment at American Home Shield in the Authorizations Department. He retired in 2013.
Ryan was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was on the Church Boards of Elders, Trustees, Human Care and Stewardship/Family Life. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church Choir for several years. He was also custodian and grounds keeper at the church for 16 years.
Ryan has had many interests including collecting Coca-Cola items, wood-working, wood carvings, doing home repairs and lawn care. He was especially proud of his John Deere Tractor.
Ryan is survived by his wife of 37 years, Darlene; two sons: Aaron Rueter and his girlfriend Abby Weiman of Addison, Illinois and Jonathan Rueter of Lincoln, Nebraska; his mother Mary Christine Rueter of Ocheyedan, Iowa; two brothers: Leon Rueter (Ruth) of Shakopee, Minnesota and Neal Rueter of Ocheyedan, two sisters: Cheryl Rueter of Ocheyedan and Terry Dias (Virgil) of Thousand Oaks, California; his mother-in-law Rowena Rae Dass of Lakefield, Minnesota; two brothers-in-law: Don Dass (Deb) of Circle Pines, Minnesota and Duane Dass (Jody) of Roseville, Minnesota, two sisters-in-law Marilyn Rients (Otis) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Dorothy Ulbricht (Jim) of Lakefield, Minnesota; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Ryan was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Rueter in 1994, his father-in-law Arthur Dass in 1983 and paternal and maternal grandparents.
