Sadena Nagel, age 96 of Little Rock, IA died Friday, January 10, 2014 at Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, MN.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Bethel Reformed Church rural Little Rock, IA with Pastor Matt Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Little Rock, IA.
Sadena Nagel was born on February 18, 1917 to Diedrich and Aleida (Meyer) Groen in Midland Township, Lyon County, IA. She was raised on the family farm northeast of Rock Rapids and attended Midland Country School.
On February 14, 1940, she married Henry Nagel at Bethel Reformed Church of Ellsworth, MN. Following their marriage, Sadena and Henry farmed near Adrian, MN, then near Allendorf, IA. In 1957 they moved close to Little Rock, IA and later to the Groen family farm. In 1972 they moved back to Little Rock. Over the years, Sadena worked various jobs including Priebe’s and Sons in Sibley, IA and Little Rock Community School.
Sadena and Henry both served as custodians for over 25 years at Bethel Reformed Church. She was a member of the RCWM and taught Sunday school for many years. Sadena enjoyed spending her free time making quilts, caramel corn, and “grandma soup” for her family and having coffee/tea with her family and neighbors. On December 29, 1992, she lost her beloved husband Henry after 52 years of marriage. Sadena remained living in her home until April of 2009, when she entered the Parkview Manor in Ellsworth, MN. She remained there until this past Friday, January 10, 2014, when she died at the age of 96.
Surviving family members are her children: Clarence (wife, Linda) Nagel of Marathon, IA, Lynda (husband, Gordon) Schmidt of Spencer, IA and Geraldine (husband, LeRoy) Hassebroek of Little Rock, IA; 8 grandchildren, Jerlynn (Darwin) Svuba, Jill (Joe) Larson, Joel (Shawn) Nagel, Jody (Kevin) Yeager, Sheila (Brent) McAnally, Shawn (Patty) Schmidt, Carol Hassebroek and Katie Hassebroek; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Syliva Gruis; and many nieces and nephews.
