Sena Hassebroek

Sena Hassebroek, 92 of Sioux City, formerly of George, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Embassy Nursing and Rehab Center in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 27th, 2014 at the Morningside Presbyterian Church with Reverend David Koehler officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 26th from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with the family present at 6:00 pm.

Sena was born October 22, 1921 to John G. and Bena (Lursen) Hinrichs in rural George, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near George and attended country school. Sena married Raymond Hassebroek on February 5, 1942 in Rushmore, Minnesota. They spent the early years of their marriage in the Army. Sena, and the family, followed Raymond in his Career as a Boilermaker with Local 83. Together they raised three sons, Lawrence, Hershel, and Roger. They moved to Sibley, Iowa in 1957 where Sena worked at Priebs Poultry for several years. They moved to Sioux City in 1967 and Sena had a daycare in her home for many years. She was a member of the South Sioux City Eagles Auxiliary and of the Siouxland Rental Association. Sena loved to sew and took great pride in her garden. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was always a treat for everyone.

Sena leaves to mourn her passing her sons and their wives, Lawrence and Mary Lynn Hassebroek of Lake Mary, Florida, Hershel and Susan Hassebroek of Hinton, Iowa, and Roger and Jean Hassebroek of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; six grandchildren Kimberly Hassebroek, Michael Hassebroek, Julie Wilson, Bradley Hassebroek, Thad Hassebroek, and Kristine Hassebroek-Freimark; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters Clara Kruger of George, Iowa, Dora Meyer of Sibley, Iowa, and Mary Turner of Ramona, California.

Sena was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond in 2007, two brothers George and John, and one sister Alice.
