Verlin F. Prostrollo, age 89 of Madison, SD passed away on Wed., June 26, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society, Howard, SD
Memorial service will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 29, 2013 at the Willoughby Funeral Home, Howard. Burial will be at the GracelandCemetery, Howard. Rev. Mary Lee Lint will officiate.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Verlin Prostrollo was born November 2, 1923, at Ree Heights, SD, to Pasciel and Mary (Patzke) Prostrollo. He attended school at Fedora, SD and then he worked with his dad at the oil and propane business in Fedora and Howard. He also farmed in the Fedora area. Verlin married Dorothy Stevens on January 31, 1948, at Luverne, MN. They lived in Madison a short time before they moved to Fedora and Vilas where they farmed for 10 years. They moved to Sheldon, IA in 1966, owning the Sheldon Bowling Lanes. He was known as “the old man” to many children in the area. In the 1980’s he worked with his son Jack in South Dakota putting in rural water systems. They moved to Madison in 1984 where he worked for Prostrollo Motors and built his own house. He retired and became active in buying and remodeling homes in Howard.
Verlin attended a national bowling tournament in Las Vegas and enjoyed playing cards at McDonald’s Restaurant in Madison.
Preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Grace; one son Jack, and three brothers, Donovan, Warren and Jerry.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Madison; three sons, Verlin Jr. (Beth) of Hartford, SD, and Ron and Leon of Sheldon, IA; one daughter, Susan (Kelly) Philiph of Archer, IA; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lenore Ostrander of Madison and Patsy (Darrell) Schultz of Sioux Falls.
