Virginia “Ginny” Lameyer died March 9, 2013, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving husband and children, following a three month battle with cancer. She was 77.
Virginia “Ginny” Lameyer was born April 11, 1935, at the family farm near Sanborn, Iowa, to Walter and Nellie (Brunsting) VanDerVliet. She graduated from high school in Sanborn in 1953. Ginny raised her family in Sheldon, Iowa, and in 1966, moved to Sioux Falls. She began working at Shriver’s where she met the love of her life, Les Lameyer.
On August 19, 1972, Les and Ginny were married in Sioux Falls. Ginny held various jobs in Sioux Falls as a waitress, X-Ray transporter at Sioux Valley Hospital, and a communications receptionist at Avera Hospital.
In the center of her life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored and cherished each one of them. Blessed with a compassionate heart, she never forgot them on their birthdays. Ginny, Les and the family enjoyed many summers at their lake home at Lake Okoboji, Iowa. In her free time, Ginny enjoyed gardening – maintaining many flower beds over the years. She also enjoyed hosting parties and picnics with family and friends. An avid card player, she looked forward to her regular Friday night Card Club.
