Wava F. Braun age 90 of Rock Rapids, IA died Friday, August 8, 2014, at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, IA.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 11th at the United Methodist Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Marcia Sangel officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaver Creek Cemetery at Beaver Creek, MN.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 10th from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

Wava Fern (Schroder) Braun was born January 22, 1924, at Sibley, IA the daughter of Henry and Idena (Davids) Schroder. Wava grew up in the Ocheyeden area and graduated from the Ocheyeden High School. She attended Cedar Falls College where she earned a teacher’s certificate. After college, Wava started teaching in a country school. Wava was united in marriage to Albert Braun on December 26, 1943, at Sibley, IA. They made their home near Sibley and later moved to a farm near Beaver Creek, MN. Wava went back to college in Sioux Falls in 1966; she completed her education and received her teaching degree in 1969. She became employed with the Rock Rapids school district in 1969 and worked for them for the next 21 years, until she retired in 1990. For the first ten years she commuted from Beaver Creek (without missing a day) before moving to Rock Rapids. After forty one years of marriage, Albert died in 1984. Wava continued with her career and remained living in Rock Rapids. Over her twenty-one years of teaching in Rock Rapids she touched many young people’s lives. She was a teacher who demanded discipline in her classroom. As a result she earned respect and appreciation from many of her students over the years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Wava was active in her community and in her church. She taught Sunday school for most of her life, served as Sunday school superintendent, sang in the church choir and participated in the many ladies circles. She was involved with the Lyon County Queen Show for many years, serving as secretary for most of those years, she also was active in the hospital auxiliary and a member of the ISEA and NEA for many years. In her retired years she enjoyed doing volunteer work in the community and church. As her health declined, Wava became a resident of the Rock Rapids Health Centre and on August 8, 2014, she died there at the age of ninety.
She is survived by her two sons, Kieth and his wife, Carmen Braun of Brandon, SD and Burdette and his wife, Sharon, Braun of Beaver Creek, MN; along with twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Wava was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Idena; husband, Albert; infant son, Kenneth; daughters, Cheryl, Debra and Jolene and brothers, Warren, Russell and Gary.
