2019 GPAC Cross Country Championships Moved To Sioux Center

Sioux City, Iowa – The 2019 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Cross Country Championship will have a change in venue for the event scheduled on Saturday, November 9, 2019.

The GPAC Cross Country Championship will now be run in Sioux Center, Iowa, at Dordt University, at their on-campus course on the Southeast corner of campus.

The event, to be hosted by Morningside College, was scheduled to be at Covington Links Golf Course in South Sioux City, Nebraska. With the recent flooding of the Missouri River and water covering much of the Covington Course the event will be moved to Sioux Center.

“While the flood water will likely recede by race day in South Sioux City, the likelihood of having a soft and soggy course would create tough conditions to have a championship event for the conference,” said GPAC Commissioner Corey Westra. “In the best interest of our student-athletes we are making this decision now to change venues for November 9”

Dordt University last hosted the GPAC Cross Country Championship in 2017. This year Dordt will host their own invite on October 12, and they also hosted the Dakota State Herb Blakely Invite on September 14 after flooding in Madison, South Dakota, forced the event to be relocated.

“I appreciate Dordt’s willingness to host this event and help out in the time of need for our conference,” said Corey Westra. “I also want to commend Morningside College (Cross Country Coach Dave Nash and Athletic Director Tim Jager) on their due diligence to work out a solution to help make this a first-class event for the GPAC.”

Morningside College will remain as the host of the event with assistance from Dordt University staff.

The women’s race will start at 10:45am, with the men to follow at 11:30am on November 9.
