Fort Dodge, Iowa — 3 Albia homeruns helped the Lady Dee’s defeat the #2 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks 9-6 in Fort Dodge on Tuesday.
Albia’s Hannah Isley got to work quickly for the Lady Dee’s with a homerun over the right field wall, making it a quick 1-0 score in the bottom of the first.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley responded in the top of the 2nd. With the bases loaded, Morgan Halbur hit a chopper to 2nd to drive in a run to tie things up at 1-1 and the bases remained loaded. Erika Pottebaum then hit into a fielders choice but drove in another run to make it 2-1 Nighthawks. Taylor Richter would then hit a 2-run double to center to extend their lead to 4-1.
The Lady Dee’s then responded in the bottom of the inning with a 2 run shot over the left field wall by Taylee Wolfer and 2 more runs would come in later in the inning to take the lead 5-4.
The Nighthawks got back on the score board in the 4th when Alexis Mousel drove in a run to tie things back up at 5-5. Albia countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning to then make the score 8-5. Isley hit another solo homer in the bottom of 6 to make it 9-5 and were later able to come away with the win 9-6
Jena Lawrence got the win for Albia. Lawrence went the complete game with 5 earned runs on 6 hits and 6 walks and struck out 4.
The loss went to Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag. She gave up 8 earned on 8 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 3.
With the win Albia improves to 29-8 on the year and will play Mount Vernon on Thursday at 5:30 pm. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley falls to 32-3 on the season and will play Sioux Center in the consolation round at 10 am on Wednesday.
