Altena Receives Weekly National Honor

Sioux Center, Iowa — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced Dordt’s Ema Altena (Junior; Sioux Center, Iowa) as the National Attacker-of-the-Week for matches played last week.

Altena averaged 5.88 kills per set with a .340 kill efficiency in a pair of 3-1 match wins over Morningside (no. 24) and Grand View (no. 12). Altena also recorded just over three digs per set in those two wins.

“It was an amazing week for Ema leading the nation in attacking. What is most impressive though is her attention to detail and desire to improve in every area of her game which, in turn, helps our team improve as well. She has been blessed with many talents and continues to invest those talents for her teammates and for the Lord,” said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.

Altena is averaging 4.44 kills per set this season with a .268 kill efficiency and she has a team high 20 service aces with 2.4 digs per set.

The Defenders are 13-3 this season and have faced nine opponents this season ranked in the top-25. Dordt will travel to Crete, Nebraska to face Doane on Saturday, September 16 before returning home to meet Mount Marty on Tuesday, September 19.
