Cedar Rapids — Four area volleyball teams open State Tournament play Wednesday in Cedar Rapids. One team is competing in 3A with the other three all competing in 2A.
In the upper bracket of 3A #6 Sioux Center (34-4) opens at noon against #5 Mount Vernon (33-7). Jessica Harald leads the Warriors in kills with 348. Camryn Cleveringa has 55 ace serves on 351-of-389 serving. Hannah Dykshorn is the assists leader with 898. Cleveringa has a team high 411 digs. Alexis Toering is the blocks leader with 60 on the year.
In Class 2A #1 Western Christian (38-6) opens at 2:00pm on court one against unranked Grundy Center (25-16). Western is led by Karsyn Winterfeld with 361 kills. She is also the Wolfpack leader in ace serves with 91 on 383-of-451 serving. Olivia Granstra is the assists leader at 548. Erica Bousema leads the team in digs with 336 and Erica Feenstra is the blocks leader with 112 on the season.
#2 Unity Christian (34-4) opens at 2:00 on court two against #12 Mediapolis (33-7). The Knights kill leader is Josie Blankespoor with 397. Allison Timmermans leads in ace serves with 73 on 316-of-367 serving. Timmermans also leads in assists with 853 and digs with 279. Jori Bronner is the blocks leader at 103.
#6 Central Lyon (30-4) opens tournament play at 4:00 on court one against #7 Council Bluffs St Albert (26-4). Hope Rasmussen leads the Lions in kills with 237. The leader in ace serves is Ashley Boer with 60 on 413-of-421 serving. Carly Snyder leads the team in assists with 661. Madie Elbert is the digs leader at 458 while Becca Roskam leads the team in blocks with 53.
