Bakker Sets Dordt Women’s 100m Record At South Dakota

Vermillion, South Dakota — Emma Bakker set the school record in 100m and ran in a pair relays that finished second to highlight day three for the Dordt University women’s track and field at the South Dakota Challenge.

The three-day meet took place at the Lillibridge Track Complex on the campus of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

Running the seventh of nine heats, Bakker won her heat and finished sixth overall with a school record time of 12.01. The senior broke the old mark of 12.15 set by Crystal Vander Zee in 2012.

Bakker followed her record-breaking showing by running the final leg of the Defenders 4×400 relay that finished second with a season-best time of 3:52.18, less than a second behind USD. The quartet of Bakker, Anmarie Stuit, Emilee Heynen and Mika Kooistra clocked the eighth fastest time all-time at Dordt and met the ‘A’ standard once again. They currently have the fifth fastest time in the NAIA.

Earlier in the day, Bakker helped lead the Defenders 4×100 relay to a second place finish with a season-best time of 49.14. They finished just behind University of Sioux Falls (48.78). Dordt’s performance this afternoon was 10th fastest all-time and relay members include Erica Nikkel, Mikayla Balt and Alexandra Beckmann.

Anna Herman gave the Defenders a top 10 finish in the 400m, placing ninth with a time of 1:03.16.

The Defenders recorded 11 personal best times / marks today.

The Defenders will compete as a split squad next weekend; a limited number of athletes will compete at the Drake Relays on April 28-30 while most of the squad will take part in the Mount Marty Invite on Saturday, April 30.
