Big 3rd Quarter Puts Rock Valley In 2A Championship

Des Moines, Iowa — It will be an all Northwest Iowa 2A championship on Friday after Rock Valley downed Monticello in the 2A lower bracket semifinal 60-44.

The game was tight in the first quarter, but Rock Valley had a slight advantage after the first frame 10-9. The Rockets created some separation in the 2nd quarter and took a 26-19 lead into intermission. Rock Valley then outscored Monticello 18-8 in the third quarter to take the 44-27 lead heading into the final quarter. Rock Valley was in front by as much as 20 early in the fourth and came away with the 60-44 win.

Rock Valley got a game high 17 from Bryson Van Grootheest, Sam Remmerde put in 14 and Landyn Van Kekerix added 11 points. Monticello got a team high 15 from Preston Ries, and 12 points from Tate Peterson.

With the win, Rock Valley improves to 21-5 and will play Central Lyon for the 2A title Friday afternoon at 3 pm. Monticello ends their year at 22-4.
