Sioux Center, Iowa — Tyson Boer, a senior at Western Christian High School (Iowa), has announced his intention to attend Dordt and join the Defender basketball program.
“Tyson has a lot of potential to really grow as a player at Dordt. As a big wing, he is an excellent defender and has made some big shots in his career. What sets him apart is that he is a winner in life and will be an excellent example as a man of faith and as a leader amongst his teammates. His family has been a big part of Dordt over the years, and we are glad he is continuing the tradition,” said Dordt basketball coach Brian Van Haaften.
Boer averaged eight points, three rebounds and three assists per game this season while helping the Wolfpack to a 2021 state championship and a pair of Lakes Conference titles in 2020 and 2021. Boer has twice been named a second-team all-conference selection.
“Dordt University feels like home. I dreamed of playing in the DeWitt Gym while wearing a Dordt jersey. The coaches and professors not only care about athletic and academic performance but more importantly about the development of your faith,” said Boer.
Tyson is the son of Jerry and Lavonne Boer of Hull, Iowa. He plans to study Construction Management.
