Fort Dodge Iowa — The Nighthawks scored five runs in the first two innings and then held Crestwood scorless for a 5-0 shutout in the seventh place game at the State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge.
In the first inning Cassie Van Beek singled and eventually scored on a Courtney Schafer double to get an early 1-0 lead.
In the second inning put another four on the board on a Van Beek 2-run single that scored Alex Mousel and Taylor Richter. That made the score 3-0. Later in the inning Kaitlyn Kerr singled in Van Beek and Sammy Blum who had singled and the Nighhawks were up 5-0.
CJ Van Der Zwaag got the win for her 30th of the season. She gave up 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 6 as the Nighthawks finish the year at 32-5 following their first trip to the State Tournament. Crestwood wraps up the season at 25-8
