Rock Rapids Iowa — Callie Yeakel, a senior sprinter/hurdler from Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids, Iowa, announced Wednesday that she has accepted a scholarship offer and committed to the Morningside College Track and Field Program.
Callie is a three time Iowa High School State Track Meet participant, medaling in events all 3 years. She has been a key part of the Lions success on the track throughout her high school career, claiming conference champion honors in the 400 meter hurdles the past 2 seasons. She helped lead the Lions to a district track title this past season, qualifying for three events at last year’s state meet.
Throughout her career at Central Lyon ,she has been called upon to run a variety of events ranging from 100 to 800 meters, and has excelled at all. Her specialty throughout her high school career has been the 400 meter hurdles and she is the school record holder with a personal best of 66.9. A two sport performer, she was also a member of the Central Lyon basketball team.
Callie also excels in the classroom with a 3.96 GPA, and is the president of the National Honor Society. She is projected as a mid-distance/400 meter hurdler for the Mustangs who participate in the GPAC Conference.
