Fort Dodge, Iowa — #8 Center Point-Urbana topped the #7 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks 10-5 in the quarterfinal round of Class 3A State Softball.
The Nighthawks got on the board quickly in the 1st inning. Courtney Schafer reached on an error to right field, then CJ Vander Zwaag would launch one over the center field wall for the 2-run home-run to make it 2-0 after one inning of play. In the top of the 2nd inning, Sam Blum would drive in Taylor Richter to make the score 3-0. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, with a 5-0 lead, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley would see their score start to dwindle as Olivia Brecht for Center Point-Urbana would lift one high down the left field line for the solo home-run. 3 more runs would come into score making it 5-4 in favor of Boyden Hull/Rock Valley after 3 innings of work. The Stormin’ Pointers would keep piling it on with three more runs in the 4th, and 3 more in the 6th, and that would be your final with Center Point-Urbana getting the win 10-5.
CJ Van Der Zwaag would take the loss, going 6 innings, giving up 12 hits, striking out 2, and adding 7 earned runs to her name.
Samantha Croghan would get the win for Center Point-Urbana. In 7 innings of work she would give up 6 hits, strike out 7, with 2 earned runs against her.
