Sheldon Iowa — Central Lyon downed Sheldon 7-3 Monday night in Siouxland Conference baseball in Sheldon.
The Lions opened the scoring in the second inning as Jaydon Baker singled to left and later scored when Ryan Metzger intentionally got caught in a rundown between first and second. Metzger came in on a Brady Wright double to right field to make it 2-0 in favor of Central Lyon.
Sheldon got on the board in the bottom of the inning as Cody Van Meeteren was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single to left by Parker Nissen to cut the lead to 2-1.
Central Lyon scored a run in the third when Riley Van Wyhe lifted a solo home run to right center to make it 3-1.
The Lions made it 4-1 in the fourth as Brandt Boekhout singled to center and scored on an rbi single to center off the bat of Brady Wright.
Central Lyon broke it open with a three run sixth inning. Boekhout reached on a base on balls and would later score on a safety squeeze laid down by Dylan Kruger. Ryan Metzger singled and scored on an rbi single off the bat of Brady Wright. Wright would score on an rbi single to center by Gable Sieperda to put the Lions in control 7-1 going into the seventh inning.
Sheldon scored a pair in the bottom of the seventh as Phil Cain reached on an error and took second on the play. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a pass ball. Alex Albrecht walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch to make the final 7-3 in favor of Central Lyon.
Winning pitcher Gable Sieperda went the first 5 and two thirds to get the win. He gave up just 1 hit and 1 earned run. He walked 3 and struck out 9. Riley Van Wyhe and Brandt Boekhout finished up. Parker Nissen took the loss going the first 6 innings. He scattered 9 hits and 2 earned runs walking 2 and striking out 3.
With the win Central Lyon is even on the year at 4-4 on the season and 3-3 in the conference. Sheldon is 5-6 for the year and 4-3 in the Siouxland.
Next action for the Orabs will be Thursday when they host Boyden Hull Rock Valley. Central Lyon is back at it Tuesday night with a trip to Okoboji.
