Central Lyon Girls Open Tournaments With Strong Opener Against LeMars Gehlen

central lyon logoRock Rapids Iowa — Central Lyon opened the tournaments hitting on all cylinders Tuesday night as they hosted LeMars Gehlen in a Class 1A girls Region 1 quarterfinal. The Lions jumped out to a 17-4 first quarter lead. With a strong second quarter Gehlen had pulled within 31-21 late in the first half . Central Lyon went in front at 33-21 at the half as Becca Roskam scored on a put back at the buzzer.

Central Lyon opened the second half on a 10-1 run and rode that momentum to a 61-33 third quarter lead before rolling to a 74-40 win.

Angel Rassmussen and Sarah Halse shared game high honors with 18 points each. Shaylee Struckman hit for 11 points to join them in double figures. LeMars Gehlen had two players in double figures with Carli Murphy hitting for 11 points and Jolee Linden adding 10 more.

With the win Central Lyon moves on to the semifinals Friday night with a record of 16-6. The Jays finish the year at 9-13.  Central Lyon will host West Sioux who downed Trinity 57-32. The upper bracket semi will have Westwood, a 69-29 winner over Woodbine at Kingsley Pierson. Third ranked Kingsley Pierson downed Charter Oak Ute 61-32 on Tuesday night.
