Central Lyon Is State Bound

Le Mars, Iowa — Three days after the Central Lyon girls clinched a state tournament berth, the Central Lyon boys used a big fourth quarter to get the 72-55 win over Cherokee to get to the state tournament.

Both teams came out guns blazing but Central Lyon took the lead behind 11 first quarter points from Mason Gerleman and 9 points from Andrew Austin to take the 22-16 lead after the first frame. The battle continued as Cherokee was able to get to within four at halftime 38-34. In the third quarter, Central Lyon was able to get some momentum and took a 52-44 lead after three. The Lions took over in the fourth with 10 fourth quarter points from Zach Lutmer and the Lions got the 72-55 win.

Central Lyon got a game high 25 points from Gerleman, 16 points from Lutmer, and 13 from Austin. Cherokee got a team high 15 points from Wil Lugar and 10 points from Jacob Hodgden.

With the win Central Lyon improves to 22-2. Cherokee ends their year at 14-11.

Up next #1 Central Lyon will take on #8 Red Oak at the State Tournament.
