Comets Sweep Orabs

Sheldon, Iowa — Sheldon came up short in a Siouxland Conference double header at the O-rena losing to Boyden Hull 51-43 in the girl’s contest and the boys would fall 60-49 to the Comets.

The girls game started out as a back-and-forth contest with each team having several turnovers until late in the first quarter. The Orabs had a chance to cut the lead to two but the Comets would force two turnovers into points in the closing seconds and lead 15-6 after one. The Comets controlled the second quarter and led 26-11 at half. The Orabs came out the aggressor in the third quarter and would narrow the lead down to four at one point and would trail 39-31 after three. The Comets maintained their advantage and went on to win 51-43.

The Comets were led in scoring by Marissa Pottebaum with 22 and 12 points form Emma Zoet. The Orabs had three players in double figures led by Makenna Kleinhesselink with 12 and 10 points each from Maliah Kleinhesselink and Claire Johnson.

The Orabs fall to 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the conference and Boyden Hull improved to 3-3 on the season and in the conference.

Sheldon led in the boy’s game 5-4 midway through the quarter before the Comets would go on a 16-3 run to end the quarter and lead 20-8 after one. The Orabs would battle back in the second quarter to trail by 6 at the break 28-22. The Orabs battled hard in the third quarter but still trailed 43-36 heading in to the fourth. Sheldon would narrow the lead to four on several occasions but could not break that barrier and would fall 60-49.

The Comets had three players in double figures led by Tanner Te Slaa with 23 followed by 15 from Dayton Brunsting and 11 from Marcus Kelderman. The Orabs were led in double figures by Tye Sudbeck with 14 and Shane Brouwer adding 12.

The Comets improved to 6-0 on the season and in the conference. The Orabs would fall to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Sheldon will travel to Sioux Center on Tuesday and Boyden Hull will host Okoboji Tuesday before going on Christmas break.
