Comets Take Two In Sheldon Tuesday

Boyden Hull earned a sweep in Siouxland Conference basketball with a pair of wins in Sheldon. The girls final was 49-34 with an 82-49 final for the boys.

It was a game of two halves for the girls. Sheldon led 15-8 after the first quarter and 21-19 at the half. The Comets gained control late in the third and took a 33-28 lead into the fourth quarter. They maintained momentum and went 8 of 10 from the free throw line to seal the win 49-34.

Marissa Pottebaum led the offense with 10 points. Ellie Woelber and Ashtyn Kelderman had 9 points each. Sheldon was led by Maliah Kleinhesselink with a 12 point night to lead all scorers.

With the win Boyden Hull is 10-10 for the year and 7-9 in the conference. Sheldon dips to 9-11 for the season and 6-10 in the Siouxland.

In the boys contest the Comets hit the Orabs with a barrage of threes with 6 players hitting a total of 17 in the contest. 9 came in the first half with 8 more in the second half. The Orabs hit 9 threes of their own as the two teams combined to hit 26 from behind the arc on the night.

The Comets were up 26-13 at the end of the first quarter, 42-24 at the half and 58-35 after the third. The offense continued to roll in the final 8 minutes with the final score 82-49.

Vance Katzfey led all scorers with 22 points including 4 threes. Dylan Francis netted 6 treys as part of a 20 point night and Bryan Zylstra hit a trio of threes on the way to a 15 point night. The Orabs countered with 9 threes of their own led by Anthony Provost with 4 as part of a 12 point night. Blake Radke hit a trio of his own as part of a 12 point night as well. Ryan Vollink led the Orabs with 14 points.

With the win the Comets are 16-1 for the year and 12-1 in the conference. Sheldon is 6-13 with a 4-11 conference mark.

Sheldon returns to action Friday with a trip to Sioux Center. The Comets will host Okoboji come Friday night.
