Comets To Play For State Title

Des Moines Iowa — For a second year in a row Boyden Hull has earned a spot in the Class 2A boys Basketball Championship Game. The Comets earned their spot with a 64-49 win over Camanche on Wednesday night. They will meet defending champ North Linn in a rematch of last years title game . The Lynx earned their way back with a 79-58 win over Treynor. Game time is set for Friday afternoon at 3:45 and we’ll bring you the coverage on KIWA FM 105.3 with pregame beginning at 3:30. Both teams were cold at the start with Camanche taking a 7-4 first quarter lead. At the half The Comets had moved in front 24-23 and by the end of the third quarter the lead was up to 45-32. Boyden Hull would maintain the momentum as they got the win 64-49. Marcus Kelderman came up big with a game high 27 points. Tanner Te Slaa scored 13 points before fouling out with 3:27 to go. Andrew Frick joining them in double figures with 11. The Indians put three players in double figures with Caleb Delzell leading the team with 15 points. Zach Erwin added 14. Cameron Soenksen  knocked down 11 before he fouled out with 3:53 to play.

The Comets rode out some serious foul trouble as Josh Heitritter, Keyton Moser and Spencer Te Slaa all finishing with four fouls. Camanche was unable to take advantage at the free throw line as they finished the night going 11-of-29 while Boyden Hull went 19-of-28 led by Kelderman who was 8-of-12 in the ball game. The Comets bench helped them ride out all of the foul trouble with a 32-2 advantage in bench scoring. Boyden Hull also had the edge in points off turnovers 20-11 and outscored the Indians in the paint 32-22.

With the  win the Comets improve to 23-3 heading into the title game on Friday. Camanche ends the season at 22-4.
