DALLAS – Iowa State sophomore running back Breece Hall receive recognition from the Doak Walker Award Wednesday afternoon by being named to their preseason watch list. The Doak Walker Award is given annually to the nation’s best running back.
Hall made an auspicious debut as a true freshman in 2019 by earning second-team All-Big 12 honors and first-team Freshman All-America accolades by Pro Football Focus.
A native of Wichita, Kan., Hall led the team in rushing (897), averaging 74.8 yards per game to rank fourth nationally among true freshman backs. His 897 rushing yards is the second-best total by an ISU freshman in school history.
Hall broke ISU’s rookie record by leading the team with nine rushing touchdowns.
Hall saw limited carries in his first five games, but averaged 101.6 yards and had all nine rushing touchdowns in the last eight games of the season, including four 100-yard efforts.
In Big 12 play, Hall was second in the league in rushing, averaging 95.0 yards per game.
Hall also proved his versatility by catching 23 passes for 252 yards. His 1,149 all-purpose yards in 2019 is second-best among ISU freshmen and his 256 yards from scrimmage vs. Texas Tech was the ninth-best single-game total in school history.
