Crete, Nebraska — The Dordt University women’s track and field team won five titles at the 2022 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship held Saturday in Crete, Neb.
Eden Winslow, Emilee Heynen and Anika Homan won the conference title in an individual event while the 4×800 and 4×400 relays also claimed top honors.
The Defenders finished third overall in the team standings with 106 points, edging out Doane by 1.5 points. Dordt has finished third in each of the last three years and in five of the last six. Concordia won the team title with 194.5 points, followed by Hastings (163).
Winslow won the conference title in the first race on championship Saturday, taking first in the 5000m. The senior crossed the finish line with a season-best time of 18:33. Four of her teammates, Margaret Myskowski (3rd), Lucy Borkowski (4th), Greichaly Ellens (5th) and Elyse Kuperus (8th) also earned all-conference honors.
Heynen claimed her individual title by winning the 800m with a time of 2:19, meeting the NAIA ‘B’ standard again. Bethany Ten Haken finished fifth (2:23) and earned all-conference honors.
Homan won the GPAC title in 3000m with a time of 10:38, followed closely by her teammate Jessica Kampman, who placed second with a time of 10:45. Myskowski (5th) and Borkowski (8th) earned all-conference honors in their second event as well.
The Defenders 4×800 relay team of Ten Haken, Heynen, Anmarie Stuit and Mika Kooistra cruised to the conference title for the second consecutive year. They clocked a time of 9:30.4 and easily met the NAIA ‘A’ standard once again. The Defenders have the top time in the NAIA to date (Mount Marty Invite).
Dordt won the final race of the day, the 4×400 relay, finishing just ahead of Concordia by 1.5 seconds. Running for the Defenders were Stuit, Heynen, Kooistra and Emma Bakker.
Overall, Heynen led the Defenders with three titles while Stuit and Kooistra claimed two each.
