Des Moines, Iowa — Defense has carried the Drake football team this spring as the Bulldogs head to Florida for Saturday’s game at Stetson. The Defense has yielded only one touchdown and less than 60 yards of rushing per game in a 1-1 start. Drake coach Todd Stepsis says most of the experience is on that side of the ball.
That defense has bolstered an inexperienced offense that lost several key players who would have been there for a fall season but graduated in December.
The offense has only completed a total of nine passes in two games but Stepsis says the defense has risen to the challenge of carrying the team.
Stepsis says the play of the defense will allow the offense time to make progress.
One concern for Saturday is the heat. Game time temperature in Deland, Florida, is expected to top 90 degrees.
