One day after firing a school record-low round of 324 on Thursday Northwestern came through with another record-breaking performance, carding a 317 in the final round and the Dordt women broke four school records, low team score; low two day total; one day low, and two day low at the Dordt Spring Invite held on April 18 and 19 at The Ridge in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Red Raiders finished the two-day, 36-hole event with a 641 (324 / 317) and finished alone in third place out of eight teams. Morningside won the meet, shooting a 36-hole total of 612, followed by the University of Jamestown at 626.
Kate Wynja established her name in the Northwestern record books, firing a three-over 75, matching the lowest individual score in program history. (Wynja’s sister, Emma, also shot a 75 at the BCU Invite in 2012) The freshman tied for fifth overall, her second best finish and third top 10 showing this season. Chanda Zomermaand tied for 13th overall with a 160, carding a final round 79. Shayla Murray matched her season-best score, shooting an 81 for the second consecutive day to place 17th with a 162. Hayley Carlson placed 20th with back-to-back 82 and Anna Perrenoud shot a season best 83 in today’s final round to finish tied for 21 with a 168.
Dordt followed a 342 first round score with a school record 339 on Friday played under the nearly ideal conditions.
The Defenders’ 681 put them in a tie with Mount Marty while Dakota Wesleyan was in fourth with a 649.
Alyssa Fedders tied for 5th with a new school record two day total 153, and low round record 77. Molly Banks and Tess Hemmilla each tied for 24th with a two day 171.
The overall medalist was Jenna Knutson (Jamestown) with a 150, holding off two Morningside golfers (Samantha Knight and Alex Mankle) by three strokes.
This was the final tune-up before the the last two rounds of the GPAC Championship, to be played next weekend at the York Country Club in York, Neb.
