Dordt Baseball Drops Two More To Sterling

Sterling, Kansas — A four-run 3rd inning sent Sterling to the win in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader with the Defenders and Dordt baseball fell to 0-4 after a 17-2 decision at Sterling.

In game one Kaden Davis got the first hit of the day for Dordt, reaching on a single. He was advanced to second when Nolan Christianson was hit by a pitch, but Dordt left two runners on to finish the inning.

The Warriors put together four runs in the bottom of the 3rd, as a leadoff single set the tone for a grand slam by Kawelo later in the inning, making the score 4-0. They repeated the effort in the 4th inning, scoring on a pair of errors and an RBI triple, again from Kawelo.

With the score 9-0 in the top of the 6th, Logan Cline hit a leadoff double before Luke November singled to right with one out to put the Defenders on the scoreboard. Dordt added to their scoring total in the 7th when Cade Hollingsworth reached on an error and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Oliver Walczak. Nolan Christianson also scored on a sacrifice fly by Logan Cline.

In game two the Warriors had five-run innings in the 1st and the 3rd to build up an insurmountable lead. The Defenders added their first run of the game in the 6th as Chase Edwards brought Logan Cline home from second after Cline was hit by a pitch and advanced on a wild pitch. Nolan Christianson entered the game as a pinch runner and stole a base, coming around to score on a Logan De Vries single to left.

Dordt will travel back to Kansas next weekend to play at Benedictine and in a neutral-site doubleheader with York.
