The Concordia Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of Dordt errors that led to a pair of unearned runs and secured a 3-2 win.
The Bulldogs got two unearned runs in the first after a flyball on the infield that was misplayed and the next batter reached on an error two put runners at first and second. After a strikeout the Bulldogs got a timely double for a 2-0 lead.
Dordt evened the score with Logan De Vries clubbing a two-run homerun in the second inning after Aaron Eshelman singled to lead off the inning.
A homerun by Jared Grabanski in the third made the score 3-2 and neither team mounted any sort of threat the rest of the way in the 3-2 final.
Dordt had a 5-2 hits advantage.
Aaron Eshelman had a multi-hit game with a pair of singles.
Logan De Vries’s two run homerun was Dordt’s only extra base hit of the game.
Gyeongju Kim went the distance and allowed two hits, two walks and one earned run while absorbing the loss.
A three-run homerun in the fifth inning broke a tight game open and the Concordia Bulldogs handed Dordt a 15-3 loss in game two of their doubleheader on Thursday in Sioux Center.
Dordt scored first with a Logan Cline double to lead off the game and he eventually scored on a Chase Edwards sacrifice fly. Concordia tied the game with a run in the fourth and five in the fifth to extend the lead and the margin widened with a seven run seventh inning for a 15-1 lead.
Dordt got two runs in the home half of the seventh as Kaden Davis knocked his first career homerun as a Defender and Cline grounded out to the right side of the infield to get Nolan Christianson in from third after he had doubled.
Cline was 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and a run batted in.
Chase Edwards, Kaden Davis and Nolan Christianson all had one hit each for Dordt’s total of five.
Nick Yeager went four and two-third innings and was charged with five runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Dordt is now 8-14 in league play and 12-26 overall while Concordia is 27-12-1 overall and 16-6 in league play.
Dordt will host Concordia on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00.
