Dordt Baseball Goes 1-1 Saturday

Lake Myrtle, Florida — The Dordt Defender baseball team was a 10-1 winner over Trinity Baptist on Saturday afternoon in Auburndale, Florida.

Dordt scored the first eight runs of the game to take control in the first four innings and was never challenged in taking the nine-inning decision.

Logan Cline scored Dordt’s first run when he reached on an error to start the game, stole second and third before scoring on an error by the catcher. Dordt eventually left the bases loaded to end the inning and led 1-0.

Oliver Walczak added another run in similar fashion in the second inning and Luke November delivered a single that scored Nolan Christianson. Cade Hollingsworth added a sacrifice fly and the Defenders were up 4-0 through two innings. Christianson knocked in his second run of the game in the third and Anthony Klinzing and Logan De Vries added a run each in the fourth while Chase Edwards scored from third on a balk in the fourth inning as well.

November added a run scoring single in the fifth and Edwards a sacrifice fly to make the final 10-1 as the last four innings were played without either scoring another run.

Geyongju Kim pitched seven innings and had three hits allowed with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

Dylan Brown pitched the final two innings and gave up one hits and struck out two.

Dordt knocked out 13 hits with Cline getting the only extra base hit of the day with a double and he scored two runs.

November, Klinzing, JaeYoun Kim and Christianson all had two hits. November knocked in a pair.

The Defenders fell in game two of Saturday’s Florida opener, as Lawrence Tech used a productive 8th inning to come away with the win.

It was a pitching battle early on as only three total hits were surrendered until the 3rd inning. Lawrence Tech got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd, scoring on a fielder’s choice on the double steal attempt.

The Blue Devils added to their lead in the 4th when Jacob Llaneza hit an RBI single through the infield to make the score 2-0.

Dordt was held down on the basepaths as Lawrence Tech continued to build momentum through the later innings to seal the win.

Logan Horne pitched 6.0 innings, striking out 12 batters

Carter Scott struck out two in an inning of relief

Anthony Rodriguez Klinzing went 2-4 with an RBI

Chase Edwards hit 1-3 with an RBI double

The Defenders will play again on Monday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex versus Cornerstone.
