McPherson, Kansas — Dordt will travel to Central Christian in McPherson, Kansas for two games on February 26 starting at 12:00 pm. The Defenders will face Central Christian again on February 27 at 11:00 am before wrapping up the weekend against Avila at 3:00 pm Saturday.
Central Christian is 1-5-1 this season with a win over Dallas Christian and losses to Sterling and Ottawa. Josh Clyden leads the team with nine hits and a .500 batting average with four runs batted in. Julius Sifuentes and Trystin Gilbert each have five hits and three runs batted in. Michael Falcon has five runs batted in and has a .333 batting average.
Michael Pedraza has a 1-1 pitching record and has worked six innings with six strikeouts. Cody Rohrbough has pitched five and two-third innings and has an 0-1 record with three strikeouts.
Avila is 1-5 with a split against Peru State, a sweep at the hands of Southwestern Assembly of God, Columbia and MidAmerica Nazarene.
Zach Lintzen leads Avila with a .381 batting average and eight hits with two triples. Trace Clinkenbeard has three doubles and a .294 batting average and Kurt Trotter is batting .267.
Briley Burrow is 1-1 on the mound with a 6.92 batting average and as pitched 13 innings with nine strikeouts. Keaton Ashby has pitched 12 innings and has an 0-2 record with nine strikeouts.
The Defenders are 0-4 this season after opening the season three weeks ago against Benedictine and Bethany. Nick Hamilton and Luis Camacho both have four hits and a .364 batting average. Lucas Nelson and John Emerson each have .300 batting averages and Logan Cline has three stolen bases this year. Emerson has three runs batted in while Cline and Aaron Eshelman each have two runs batted in.
Isaac Vander Hart has a 1.80 earned run average in five innings and struck out three batters. Willem Hoekstra and Luke Turner each have three and a third innings of work as well and Kim Gyengju has three strikeouts. Turner sturck out four batters in his first appearance of the season.
Dordt travels to Florida for games beginning on Saturday, March 6. The Defenders will play 10 games over the course of a week.
