Dordt Baseball Shuts Down DWU

Sioux Center, Iowa — The Dordt Defender baseball team stopped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Dakota Wesleyan in GPAC baseball on Saturday afternoon in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Dordt got a run in the first inning when Logan Cline doubled to lead off the inning and advanced on a fly ball to rightfield. Cline scored on a Chase Edwards single up the middle and Dordt had a 1-0 lead.

After that Dordt’s Gyeongju Kim was masterful on the mound as he retired the next 13 batters. Wesleyan got the tying run as far as second in the seventh inning but Kim recorded the final out with a strikeout.

Wesleyan’s best chance at damage was the first inning when a leadoff double and a single later in the inning had runners at the corners but the runner at third was caught over running the bag and retired to end the inning.

Dordt had a 7-2 hits advantage with Luke November recording the only multi-hit game for the Defenders as he went 2-3.

Cline scored a run and Edwards had a run batted in.

Kim struck out 14 and walked three and had two hits allowed—none after the first inning.

The Dordt Defenders got a strong pitching performance in game two of their doubleheader with Dakota Wesleyan and secured a sweep with a 4-0 win on Saturday in Sioux Center.

Dordt got a solo homerun by Logan Cline to start its first inning and Cline knocked in a run with triple in the third and later scored on a Luke November single.

Dordt added to the lead with a run in the seventh when November singled in Nolan Christianson for a 4-0 lead.

While Dordt’s offense was getting on the board Logan Horne was in command on the mound. The senior righthander struck out nine and walked three while surrendering two hits. Horne worked out of trouble in the first inning when Wesleyan had runners at first and third with no one out but couldn’t get the timely hit.

Nick Yeager preserved the shutout with two innings of relief work and allowed one hit.

Logan Cline was 3-4 and reached base on all four appearances. He was a single shy of the cycle and knocked in two runs and scored two.

Luke November was 3-4 with two runs batted in and Dylan Stanley had a double.

Horne went seven innings and struck out nine and Yeager got the save with four strikeouts and he faced nine batters in the final two innings.

Dordt is now 10-18 overall and 6-6 in the GPAC. Dakota Wesleyan is 7-16 overall and 1-9 in the conference.

Dordt will face Mount Marty on Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9 in its next outings.
