Dordt Football Hosts Briar Cliff

Dordt College hosts Briar Cliff on Saturday, October 27 in a 1:00 kickoff. The Dordt football program will be honoring the seniors in the program prior to the contest.

The Defenders are 5-2 this season after a 49-18 win over Jamestown last weekend. The Defenders are 4-2 in the GPAC and are tied with Midland for third and are one game in front of Briar Cliff in the standings. Dordt’s losses this year are to Doane (24-21) on September 15 and Northwestern (40-28) on October 6.

Dordt has outscored teams 302-181 through seven games and have outscored teams on average 43-25.8. The Defenders are averaging 434 yards of offense with 374 allowed. Dordt gets 261 on the ground and 174 in the air.

Keithen Drury has 113 rushes for 602 yards and eight touchdowns. Levi Schoonhoven has 71 rushes for 425 yards and six touchdowns. Brock Lamle has 259 yards rushing and has 66 pass completions with 16 touchdowns.

Levi Jungling has 33 receptions for 19.9 yards per catch and six touchdowns. Jake Dodge has 11 receptions for 12.2 yards per catch with two touchdowns. Matthew Oh-Slack has nine catches for 22.7 per reception and three touchdowns.

Casey Byker has punted 25 times for a 35.6 average and Brett Gaines is 6-7 on field goals with a long of 39. Gaines is also 35-37 on point after tries.

Byker has four interceptions and three touchdowns scored on defense with 52 total tackles. Nathan Kabongo has two interceptions and Tyson Dahlgrin has two fumble recoveries and four blocked point after tries with 4.5 quarterback sacks. David Kacmarynski has four sacks and nine tackles for loss. Jordan Weiland has three sacks and Josh Mrazek has 13 tackles for loss. Julius Buchanan also has three sacks for a team that has a school record 22 sacks this season.

Briar Cliff is 5-3 this season and 3-3 in GPAC play. The Chargers started the season with three straight wins over Waldorf, Dakota State and Hastings and have gone 2-3 since with wins over Dakota Wesleyan and Concordia in that stretch. The three losses for Briar Cliff in GPAC play are to Morningside (56-0), Jamestown (34-32) and Doane (17-7).

The Chargers are averaging 24 points per game and allow 20 points per outing. The Chargers run for 170 yards per game and pass for 226. Defensively the Chargers are giving up 122 yards on the ground and allowing 223 in the air.

Noah Ylagan averages 4.5 yards per rush and has 657 yards rushing. Kwame Johnson has rushed for 446 yards and a 4.6 average.

Three different players have quarterbacked the Chargers this season. Jacob Diaz has played in four games and is 39-71 passing for 731 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. Brad Cagle has thrown for 605 yards and is 35-61 passing with seven touchdowns and one interception and he has played in three games. Cole Hanafan is 30-66 passing in six games with four touchdowns and five interceptions.

Elijah Brown has caught 26 passes with nine touchdowns and a 19.6 yards per catch average. Khamren Davenport has 23 catches with two touchdowns and 17.2 yards per catch and Logann Freeman has 19 catches for 416 yards and five touchdowns. Freeman has the highest per catch average with 21.9 and Rashad Brown has 16 catches for 209 yards and 13.1 yards per grab.

Steven Delia is 14-20 on point after tries and Ylagan is 5-6. Briar Cliff has not converted a field goal this season. Delia has handled the majority of the punting chores with 37 punts and a 35.9 average and Cagle has two punts for a 37 average.

Markel Roby has three interceptions this season and Casey Brown has two. Omar Dyles has 5.5 sacks this season and Logan Knudson has four with Tyler Wilson at 3.5. Caleb Wilson has been in on 66 tackles this season and Peyton Bailey has 51 with one interception.

Next week Dordt will go on the road for back to back games on November 3 and 10 at Morningside and Midland. Briar Cliff will host Midland and will go to Northwestern to complete the season.
