Dordt Men Turn Away Jamestown

The Dordt Defenders overcome an early five point deficit and turned away Jamestown in GPAC action on Thursday night, January 14 in Sioux Center, Iowa. The Defenders used a 10-0 run to overcome the deficit and took the lead for good and led nearly the entire second half by double-digits.

Both teams were plagued by turnovers during the first half with Dordt taking an 11-7 lead on a three-point shot by Cade Bleeker with 14:30 remaining in the half. Jamestown responded with a 9-0 run and led 16-11 after Jack Talley knocked down a three-point shot with 11:31 left in the half.

Back to back baskets by Jake Vis tied the game for Dordt at 16-16 and Garrett Franken’s shot with 9:45 left gave Dordt a lead it never relinquished. Ben Gesink followed with a three-point shot to cap the 10-0 run and the lead eventually went to 44-35 at halftime.

A Franken basket started the second half for Dordt and the Defenders never led by less than 11 the rest of the game. Dordt extended the lead to 28 on several occasions after the ten minute mark and Jamestown cut into the lead but never got closer than 18 before falling 87-68. Jamestown was limited to 14 points in the first 13 minutes of the second half when the game was decided.

Dordt is now 14-4 overall and 9-4 in the GPAC.

Jamestown is 12-5 overall and 8-4 in league play.

Dordt will travel to Hastings on Saturday, January 16.
