Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt will host a pair of home games this weekend, as the Defenders play Mayville State on October 29 and Valley City State on October 30. Both games are scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM in De Witt Gymnasium.
The Comets finished last year with a record of 14-5 and have been picked to finish second in the North Star Athletic Association. After losing top scorer Keiron Goodwin to graduation, Mayville State returns Latrelle Franklin (12.6 PPG) and Thomas Gieske (10.1 PPG). The team finished at the top of the NSAA standings in 2020-21. Head Coach Darren Tighe is entering his fifth season with the Comets.
The Vikings were picked to finish first in the North Star preseason poll after a 19-7 overall record last season. The team’s top two scorers, Kevin Schramm and Jalen Addison, return after averaging 11.8 and 11.5 points respectively last year. Valley City State has an experienced team with nine seniors on the roster. Head Coach Ryan Montgomery is entering his sixth year coaching the Vikings.
Dordt enters the weekend with a 1-1 record and most recently defeated East-West University 98-69. Over two games, Dordt has averaged 94 points per game and is shooting 48.1% from the field. Luke Rankin is leading the team in scoring with 20.5 points per game along with Jacob Vis averaging 18.0 and Bryce Coppock 16.5. Vis secured eight rebounds versus William Penn last Friday.
Dordt will play at home again on Tuesday, November 2 as they host Dakota State in a non-conference matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM in De Witt Gymnasium.
