Kissimmee, Florida – The Dordt Softball team dropped both Monday games in Florida. Dordt fell to Bellevue 3-2, and dropped a 7-4 decision to Northwestern (Ohio).
The Dordt softball team lost to Bellevue in a well-pitched game for both teams. Neither team broke over two hits through the first four innings, until Dordt strung together a series of hits to score their first run of the game. Jessica Flaherty advanced to third base after Jessica Oules singled to right field and an error from Bellevue put two Defenders in scoring position. Flaherty scored on Hannah Sikkema’s single to left field. After Sikkema stole second base on the next at-bat, Bellevue’s Savannah Gunn worked her way out of a difficult inning.
Bellevue took the lead in the bottom of the 5th as Ashley Young drove in the runner from second to tie the game at 1. Lauren Russell hit a double to center to break the tie and give Bellevue a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the 6th, Dordt found themselves down by one before a one-out double from Erin Bredemus scored Chandler Schemper from second to tie the game. Bellevue once again controlled the damage, leaving a Dordt runner at third to end the inning.
Jessica Oules went 2-3 at the plate. Chandler Schemper went 1-2 with a run scored. Rachel Evavold struck out 6 batters in 7 innings pitched
Dordt got out to a quick start in the 1st inning, with Hannah Sikkema and Ella Koster leading off with back-to-back base hits. Sikkema then scored on a throwing error, and Ella Koster scored on a fielder’s choice. The two teams were tied 2-2 after one inning of play.
Northwestern gained a run back in the 2nd inning with an RBI from Shayla Munyan that scored Gianna Desimone. Abby Kraemer pitched out of the situation, leaving a runner on third.
Northwestern added on to the lead in the top of the 4th, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 6-2 lead.
Dordt answered by scoring two in the bottom of the 4th. Becky Pedersen singled to right, followed by a double from Chandler Schemper. Kayla Zevenbergen came up to the plate later in the inning and hit a single that drove in two Dordt runners.
Northwestern would add one more run in the top of the 6th, and did not allow any hits in the following two innings, leading to a 7-4 win.
Hannah Sikkema was 2-4 with a run scored. Kayla Zevenbergen went 1-3 with 2 RBI. Becky Pedersen was 1-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored
Dordt will play William Penn at 10:00 am and Warner at 12:15 on Tuesday in Kissimmee, Florida
